The organization has invested over $75 million in more than 2,800 school music programs, supporting 285+ school districts nationwide. Since 2019, they've doubled their reach, funding 600+ new programs in major cities including New York, Newark, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles, and others.
The transition to independence began in 2019 when the organization removed VH1 from its name. Currently, 95% of their 2024 budget comes from diverse sources including:
- Community-based foundations
- Individual donations
- Music industry contributions
- Major tech companies (Amazon, TikTok, Meta)
- A $2 million grant from MacKenzie Scott
To celebrate this milestone, Save the Music is hosting a giveaway campaign on the Propeller platform through February, featuring auction prizes from artists like Sabrina Carpenter, The War and Treaty, Denzel Curry, GHOST, and others. All proceeds will support new music programs nationwide.
Executive Director Henry Donahue emphasizes the importance of music education: "In every school I visit, the music room is a special place. The students are excited to be there, and they are creative, thoughtful, and optimistic in a way that should give us all hope for the future."
